All job information and job descriptions are offered as guidelines to help you understand general responsibilities for each of the types of domestic positions listed on Me and My Nanna, LLC’s website.  Please note that every family’s job description is unique and may have different requirements.  However, requirements of any position should be discussed during the interviewing process and upon extending a job offer.  This is preferably done in writing to avoid any misunderstandings.

NANNY

Nannies are professional, in-home childcare providers.  They can often be an affordable alternative to daycare/childcare facilities, depending on the salary range being offered and especially if there is more than one child to be cared for.  Additionally, having a nanny provide individual and specialized attention and care to a family’s child/children in the comfort, safety and familiarity of their own home can extend to families a greater peace of mind than with daycares.

The main role of a nanny is to provide a safe, caring, nurturing and fun environment in which a child/children can develop.  General responsibilities include taking care of the child/children and most things related to that child’s care.  Each nanny position may have different responsibilities depending on the family’s requirements, the age(s) of the child/children and other factors.  Some typical responsibilities of a nanny are helping the child/children get dressed, preparing their meals, cleaning up after the child/children, helping with schoolwork, organizing the child/children’s extracurricular activities, etc.  Other requirements may or may not include light housekeeping, transporting child/children to and from school/activities, grocery shopping, running errands, and doing the parents’ laundry, etc.

WORK SCHEDULE

A nanny may work anywhere from a few hours per week up to 12 hours per day.  This is dependent upon the schedule and requirements outlined by the family and should be discussed prior to any work agreement entered into by the nanny and the family.  Please note that once an agreement is entered into and changes need to be addressed, this should be done with respect to the nanny’s schedule and commitments outside of the home.

SALARY

Typical Salary – Salary ranges for nannies are typically from $7.50/hr to $20/hr or $350 - $800/week and are dependent on whether it’s a live-in or live-out position, the number of hours per week, the nanny’s experience and education level, the number of children cared for, responsibilities and a family’s affordability level.  Families are encouraged to ask the potential nanny during the initial interview what would be commensurate for the services rendered.

Benefits – Offering benefits to an employee is not required by law.  Benefits, however, make the package being offered to the nanny more attractive and may contribute to longevity of their employment.  Many candidates do not expect nor desire benefits while others do.  This should be discussed directly between the family and the prospective candidates.

Availability – All prospective caregivers who are registered with Me and My Nanna, LLC, are asked during the interviewing process and prior to being placed in our database their availability.  Because we carefully screen our prospective caregivers and only select those for interviewing whom we feel can demonstrate the kind of honesty, openness and sincerity that we feel a family is in need of; every consideration and attempt is therefore carried out to ensure that the prospective nanny that interviews with the family can begin to be an extension of the family as soon as the family enters into the signed contractual agreement with the nanny.

How to find and hire a nanny – To find a nanny through Me and My Nanna, LLC, each family is encouraged to assess the family’s childcare needs.  The family is encouraged to write down what they are looking for in a caregiver, what liberties, as they relate to the child/children, they are willing to share with an extension of the family, hereby known as “the nanny” and many other concerns prior to engaging in the process.  Many of these questions and outlines can be found on this website under our FAQ for Family section.
